Welcome to the UCT Surgical Society Research Page

This website will serve as a hub for medical students interested in research while in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

You will find a list of existing programmes, in addition to an active database of research opportunities that we hope can catalyse your interest in integrating research into your clinical career.

At present, the Google Forms and Resources Tab will be open for ongoing research opportunities.

KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN for the launch of our Research Apprenticeship Initiative in collaboration with the UCT Department of Surgery.

Who are we?

As a student society we help form a bridge between students and academic societies and foster a passion in the discipline.

The UCT Surgical Society is a student-run academic surgical society - the first of its kind in South Africa.

We have led the establishment of surgical societies nationally and continentally, amending the model of student-led surgical societies implemented in top UK universities.

Why this initiative?

UCT student societies have typically served as a bridge between academia and students - creating and presenting talks surrounding topics as well as linking interested students to research projects and mentors.

There are numerous ways to be involved in research as a student at UCT. You will find these listed below. However, from our experience, the opportunities remained scattered and only found via word of mouth. This initiative seeks to lay the foundation to change that.
