First Refugee Health Clinic at Groote Schuur
On the 17th of March 2018 we had our first Refugee Health Clinic at Groote Schuur Hospital. We provided health screening services to men and women from Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town. Such services included PAP smears (for women), HIV and blood glucose testing, screening for hypertension and TB. In between the screening stations, there was a health promotion session where Dr Gordon engaged with the patients on health issues that most women face. This deemed to be very useful to most of the patients.
Thank you to all the students and doctors that volunteered. We hope that more students will volunteer at our next clinic. In the words of Adam Gardener, “It’s great not only talking about community service in theory but actually doing it”.
